• Scheduling a Date - We can schedule your newborn’s portraits based on your due date. The session fee will be due to officially hold your date. Since babies tend to come early or later than planned, we can move dates around if needed. Please get in touch with me after your baby is born to make any necessary changes. I photograph newborns within the first two weeks of life, but premature babies can be an exception.
• Studio Location - Newborn sessions take place in my home portrait studio. I provide everything needed for the session (hats, headbands, blankets, baskets, and props) so all you worry about bringing is baby. Your session will be completely set up before you arrive so we can get started immediately.
• Day of the session - If possible, try keeping baby stimulated and awake an hour or so before the session; a bath usually helps in keeping them awake. It’s best to start on a full belly so feeding him/her right before putting them in the car seat to head my way is best. Please dress him/her in a button down outfit so there is nothing required to pull over their head while undressing them. The room will be set between 80-85 degrees for baby so you may want to dress light. Sessions can take upwards of 3-5 hours even with a very sleepy baby. I will play a white noise machine during the session to mimic the sounds of the womb.
• What to bring - Please bring a pacifier if your baby takes one, and of course, extra diapers. It's nice to bring a bottle of formula or expressed breast milk so I can feed baby during the session, but it's not mandatory. Once baby has that connection with mommy in the middle of a session, it can be difficult for them to get back into a deep sleep. If mommy’s milk is not all the way in baby may want to use mommy to snack and pacify frequently. If you're exclusively breastfeeding, that's perfectly fine. We will take breaks as needed.
